Overdrive's Most Frequently Asked Questions

Below are all of the questions we could remember having been asked in the past. If you have a question that's not on here, please feel free to email overdrive@alivenetwork.com or call our agent, Alive Network, on 01782 740839.

How much space do you need?

We usually ask for an allocated space of at least 4x3m, but if you have any special requirements please get in touch and we can work something out! We’ve played everything from huge stages to pub corners, so we’re flexible.

How is it best to time things?

However you’d like! For most clients we recommend our 3x40mins option, which allows you to spread the live music over a longer period of time. However, we also offer a 2 x 60 mins option as standard, which can be a good choice for events running to a strict schedule. An example using our 3 x 40 mins set option might look like this:

- 8-8:40pm – 1st live set
- 8:40-9:30pm – DJ playlist
- 9:30-10:10pm – 2nd live set
- 10:10-10:45pm – DJ playlist
- 10:45-11:25 – 3rd live set (make sure to leave time for an encore!)

We typically recommend that any sets of live music are wrapped up by 11:30pm and don’t clash with when food is served, but other than that it’s your call!

Can I pick the bands playlist?

In our tailored pre-event phone call we’re happy to discuss our setlist with you - we usually recommend selecting 5-6 songs from our song list you’d definitely like, as well as any that you definitely don’t. This leaves us flexibility on the night to play what the dancefloor needs! We can also build sets based on broader criteria e.g., 90s focus, mix for all ages etc. Additionally, we’re happy to learn one song that’s not on our setlist, free-of-charge, for every client.

Where will you travel to?

Anywhere! We’re based in Manchester but have played all across the country and even internationally.

Can I see you play live?

The vast majority of our bookings are for private events; however, when we do have a public performance, we ensure that they’re advertised ahead of time on our social media pages - @overdrivealive on Instagram and Overdrive Band on Facebook.

Will you learn our special song?

Yes we will! As long as we have one month’s notice, we offer to learn any song free-of- charge for all clients. If you need more than one brand new song for your event, reach out and we’ll see what we can do. Some recent songs we’ve learnt for clients include Still Into You by Paramore, Are You Ready for Love by Elton John and California (The O.C. theme) by Phantom Planet.

Is the video on your website a true reflection of the band?

100% YES. Our performance videos were recorded live in the room, with all the same instruments and equipment we use at events. What you see is what you get!

How do I book you?

To book us, you can fill out our enquiry form.

Are you able to DJ in between sets?

Absolutely – we offer a Spotify playlist DJ service free as standard, using our sound system to play a curated mix of songs. We also offer a live DJ service, where one of the band will be mixing at the decks, speaking to the crowd and taking requests. This premium service can be acquired for an additional fee, but is free-of-charge when you confirm your booking within 7 days of your initial enquiry.

Can we make DJ requests in advance to my event?

Absolutely - for either the playlist service or live DJ option, we’d love you to send some tracks over ahead of time, or even a complete party playlist if you want! Otherwise we can curate something based on your interests or event vibe. With our live DJ service, we’re also available to take requests on the night.

Can we use your sound system for speeches?

Absolutely! You’re more than welcome to use our microphone and PA for your speeches.

What equipment do you use?

For our PA we use two EV ZLX-15p 15” active speakers, alongside a wireless Behringer X AIR XR18 mixer: this reliable, professional-standard gear means we can provide fantastic audio quality and fidelity for your event. We only use road-tested equipment that meets our high standards, and are constantly upgrading our set-up with the latest developments.

Do you have lights?

We do - we use two Eurolite LED KLS-120 FX light sets, mounted on stands. If you have any requests for colours or vibes let us know!

How long do you play for?

We perform for a total of two hours at a typical event, split as 2 x 60 mins or 3 x 40 mins. However, if your event requires more or less music than this, we’re very happy to discuss alternative options! A live DJ or DJ playlist service can also be provided in between the live sets.

What time do you start and finish?

As standard we can arrive any time from 6pm, and can end any time before midnight. However, if your event is running to a different timescale, we offer early arrival options and a 1am finish option for an additional fee.

How long do you take to set up?

Provided that your venue is accessible for load-in, we ask for one hour of set-up time, which also includes our soundcheck.

Can I provisionally book you?

Unfortunately, we can’t usually accept provisional bookings due to high demand: however, if there is something preventing you from confirming, please reach out and we’ll see what we can do!

What if the band split up before my event?

The band will honour any bookings made whilst our website and profile is active. In the unlikely event that this cannot happen, we will make sure that a similar and suitably- experienced band is available for your event.

Can my sister/boss/daughter’s dog sing with your band?

We love anything that makes an event unique to you, so 100% yes! In the past we’ve even had a groom bring his guitar to his wedding and jam with us. We just ask that we are made aware of this request at the point of booking, and that it’s limited to a couple of tunes.

What will the band wear?

Our usual event attire is smart-casual, in the style seen in our promo pics and videos. However, we’ve done everything from Hawaiian shirts to complete pirate outfits for events before, so if you have a theme then try us!

Does the band have PAT and PLI certificates?

Yes, we have full PAT testing of our equipment completed yearly and PLI up to £10 million.

Why should I book Overdrive?

We think Overdrive is unique in our pairing of super-high energy performances with professional and organised planning; we want every event to feel like a real, spontaneous, fun gig, whilst at the same time nailing all of the small details that can matter so much on very important days. We pride ourselves on our thorough communication before and during your event, as well as the quality of musicianship and equipment we bring to every performance. We genuinely love playing events and we think it shines through on stage: our level of enthusiasm is hard to fake!

How much does it cost to book the band?

Our pricing changes slightly depending on location, time of year and any extra options chosen – please check out our booking page for a rough guide, as well as the costs for our additional options.

Can we see some previous client testimonials?

We have lots of reviews left by happy customers for you to view on our testimonials page! We retain an exclusively 5-star rating and have been described as ‘simply sublime’ and ‘fantastic from start to finish’ by previous clients. You can also view our event pictures and selfies here.

Do Overdrive have any specific requirements?

We ask for a room at the venue for getting changed, as well as a meal and soft drinks for the duration of the booking. We perform much better on a full stomach!

What type/size venues are you able to play at?

We can play any type or size of venue! Our equipment and setup are super versatile so we can accommodate anything from a pub to a concert hall.

How loud will the band be?

Our high-quality PA allows us to be flexible with volume, meaning we can usually be as loud or quiet as necessary. If you have more restrictive venue limits on volume, with advance notice we can arrange the use of an electric drumkit, or if you would like us to play a particularly large outdoor venue, we can bring additional equipment to ensure we’ve got enough oomph!

What is the band power requirement?

We require three 13-amp sockets close to the staging area.
